In her latest book, architectural historian Morta Baužienė invites you to travel and learn about the history and heritage of Vilnius' surroundings. The sight-seeing routes stretch through once-prosperous manor houses, which are disappearing in our time, encourage you to walk along the paths of the rebels, meditate in stone masonry or wooden churches, and think about the times of prosperity and decline of monasteries endowed with wealth. In a book richly saturated with historical facts, the author allowed herself to insert one other lyrical digression, an emotional note. The book contains many illustrations that testify to the impact of different eras on heritage. The author hopes that, based on the facts presented in the book, explorers will create their own travel routes that will encourage them to get to know their native land better.
The book "Looking around Vilnius" is the author's third book in a series dedicated to Vilnius, published by "Savastis" publishing house. The richly illustrated book "A Look at the Walls of Old Vilnius" (2012) describes the most important buildings in Vilnius, the stories of their origin, and the events in them. The second book "Looking beyond the defensive walls of the city of Vilnius" (2015) reviews the most important buildings, ensembles, cemeteries, houses of worship, bridges of some of the former suburbs of Vilnius (Antakalnis, Kalvarijės, Rūdninkai and Užupis suburbs, Žvērynas, Pylimo J.
