Stories of Vilnius pavements

Compared to asphalt pavement, paving is almost eternal (stone does not wear out), but heavy traffic wears down the base of the pavement. It is for this reason that when repairing the pavement of Pylimo Street, the main focus is on strengthening the foundations.

During the repair, it is necessary to dismantle part of the pavement, and then we supplement the base of the street with a mixture of sand and cement, create it and compact it well, so that it is more durable under heavy traffic. After that, another, more artistic part of the work begins - in the paving puzzle, you need to find the most suitable place for each stone.

To maintain the authenticity of the pavement, precise and careful work is necessary. Each block of stone is unique - it differs in height, length, width and color. Therefore, you need to find the right block that perfectly fills the stone puzzle and place it. A mechanized way of doing such work has not yet been invented (you are not here to lay concrete pavers!), so our craftsmen inspect each stone, smooth it out, evaluate its properties and find the most suitable place for it. Each stone is moved by hand, weighs about 8 kg on average, so at least several tons of weight pass through the hands of our craftsmen during the working day.

This process is necessary to make the street safe and convenient for the traffic of Vilnius residents.
