The Bishop of Vilnius is considered the second or third most important person in Lithuania.
It is not surprising that some believe that Jogaila gave the bishop of Vilnius not just anything to live in, but his own residence, where his father Algirdas also resided. Today, the outlines of this residence can be found at the dab. Bell towers of Vilnius Cathedral.
The bishops of Vilnius used this residence until 1536. Later, he moves elsewhere, to dab. The seat of the Presidency. The old bishop's palace continued to remain and was used for various purposes for another 300 years.

Under the guise of a very strange military purpose, to build a "fort" in the center of the city, in 1832 the Old Bishop's Palace was swept away, and an open firing field, an esplanade, was installed along the southern edge of the Vilnius Cathedral.
In commemoration of the centenary of the annexation of Lithuania to Russia, it was decided to diligently implement the "sanitary requirements" and turn the esplanade, which is no longer in use, into a square / city square, where a monument to Empress Ekaterina II would stand.
Due to "unfavorable conditions", it was only possible to implement it in 1904. On the monument to Catherine II, the inscription "I returned what was stolen" (Russian: отторженная звудродихъ) and three dates of the division of the Republic of the Two Peoples: 1772, 1793 and 1795 were displayed.

This was how the dab was established. The history of the Cathedral Square as a "city space" and forced efforts to complete the history of this space as the Vilnius castles.
