Promising to increase competition in trade and stabilize price growth, the prime minister says he misses the active actions of the Competition Council. According to Saulius Skvernelis, the position of the council is strange and in some areas does not correspond to the position of the state.
"Regarding the Competition Council, their representatives participated in meetings at our place, we only have to regret that the opinion was expressed that everything is fine here, that nothing needs to be done, everything is normal with us - the way it is with the prices, everything is fine." It's a bit strange," S. Skvernelis told journalists at the Government on Monday.
"Apparently, we haven't heard of any research recently, where proactive intervention, participation or preventive actions of one or the other were done. (...) Regarding the reduction of drug prices, the position of this council is completely different and does not respond to the positions of the state or patients", said the Prime Minister.
When asked about trust in the chairman of the council, Šarūns Keserauskas, the prime minister said that this is the competence of the Seimas.
"If there is distrust, it is the institution to which, I would like to emphasize, this Competition Council is accountable - and that is Seimas - would express a different will. After the conclusions presented by the National Security and Defense Committee (Seima - BNS), certain doubts arose due to some individuals and they remain," said S. Skvernelis.
