LTG Infra, the company that manages the Lithuanian public railway infrastructure network, is investing in the digitization and automation of operations - it will connect more than 50 stations in the country into one information system that will inform passengers about train schedules, traffic changes or safety. As indicated in the company's announcement, the maximum value of the project is 3,38 million. euros.
"We aim for as many residents of the country or foreign guests as possible to choose an ecological means of transport - the train. This requires that the railway infrastructure becomes as convenient as possible for travelers. The unified system will connect the station, which serve the largest passenger flows and will allow real-time monitoring of train schedules or their changes. The implemented solutions will also be adapted to people with special needs", says Karolis Sankovski, CEO of LTG Infra.
According to K. Sankovski, until now the network of railway stations did not have a centralized passenger information system, some stations had individual systems, so this project is another step in increasing passenger satisfaction, while creating an opportunity for all carriers to connect to the system under equal access conditions.
In more than 50 stations, a modern passenger information system will be installed, special screens will be installed and connected to the common network in waiting rooms and platforms, and automatic message modules will be installed. The installed audio and video equipment will not only inform passengers about train traffic in real time, but will also make it possible to reduce the number of incidents on platforms and educate passengers about safe behavior on platforms and railway stations, according to the statement of "Lietuvos geležinkėliu".
The project will be implemented by the company "Belam LT", which won the public tender. The work is planned to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2023.
