With the warm season approaching, the airline "Wizz Air" reminds us of a few simple tips that will help travelers reach their vacation destination rested and ready for new experiences. This summer, the company has added direct flights from Vilnius to Catania (from May 5, twice a week) and Budapest (from June 30, three times a week). These flights connect to already popular summer destinations - Larnaca, Kutaisi, Malaga, Barcelona and others.
"Summer is our favorite time to welcome travelers from Lithuania. The travel experience begins at check-in, so small but wise choices can make the entire trip an enjoyable part of your vacation. Drink plenty of water, keep your book, phone, and other essentials in one easy-to-reach pocket, and dress in layers—the air on a plane is often cooler than outside on a hot summer day."
This year, travelers will be guided by the company's new initiative - "Customer First Compass", worth 14 billion euros. With this initiative, we aim to ensure a smoother, clearer and more caring travel experience. "We want every passenger to step off the plane rested, curious and ready to explore their destination," advises Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Head of Corporate Communications at Wizz Air.
Useful tips for summer travel:
Drink plenty of water. The air is drier up high than we are used to. After the screening, carry a reusable water bottle with you and drink at least one large glass of water for every hour of flight.
Choose clothing suitable for two climate zones. Throw on a thin top layer over light summer clothing. It can be chilly at the airport or by the sea in the evening - a light shirt or sweater will prevent you from feeling uncomfortable cold.
Protect yourself not only from the sun, but also from the heat. In southern Europe, the UV index often exceeds 8, so use a broad spectrum SPF 30+, reapply every two hours, and wear a hat. Spend the midday heat in the shade, at a museum, or enjoying lunch.
Digitize documents. Save tickets, hotel reservations, and document photos in one app that works offline.
Move smart. Keep a foldable basket in your hand luggage - it's perfect for the beach, for wet towels or for items you want to reach quickly.
Summer destination recommendations:
Catania (twice a week from Vilnius) – Sicily’s black volcanic sand beaches, views of Etna and the famous fish market “La Pescheria” invite you to feel the true energy of Sicily. An evening stroll along Via Etnea goes perfectly with pistachio granita and the volcano glowing in the distance.
Budapest (three times a week from Vilnius) – Often called the “Pearl of the Danube”, the Hungarian capital is home to UNESCO-listed Buda Castle, the Chain Bridge, famous thermal baths and popular “ruin” bars. Spend the morning in the Széchenyi Baths and in the evening admire the panorama from the Fisherman's Bastion.
Larnaca (twice a week from Vilnius) – A port city in Cyprus, famous for its Finikoudes beach, cozy old town, and flamingo-filled salt lakes, it is perfect for families and kitesurfers.
Kutaisi (twice a week from Vilnius) – In the green Imereti region of Georgia, vineyards, picnics in nature, the Prometheus Cave and the Sataplia Glass Bridge, as well as tastings in authentic wine cellars await you.
Malaga (twice a week from Vilnius) – Picasso’s hometown, famous for its 16 beaches and over 30 museums, including the Picasso Museum. After visiting the museum, enjoy some tapas and a leisurely bike ride along the seaside.
Barcelona (twice a week from Vilnius) – Summer is the ideal time to experience Gaudí's architecture, the exhibitions at the MACBA museum and the colorful Gràcia Festival. And the best way to spend a hot afternoon is at the beach.
Since Wizz Air's first flight on the Kaunas-Warsaw route in 2005, the airline has carried more than 12 million passengers to and from Lithuania and currently offers 16 routes to 12 countries. With one of the youngest and greenest fleets in Europe, the company reduces its environmental impact while keeping travel affordable for everyone.
