The reconstruction of the Vilnius-Utena concrete road built several decades ago can be completed at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025, says the Minister of Transport Marius Skoudis.
"It is possible to finish the whole way before then", the minister stated on Wednesday in the Economic Committee of the Seimas.
According to him, it should be re-evaluated whether the planned new road is not too wide.
"Does the road really have to be as wide as it is planned, so wide?" Maybe not so wide is enough?" M. Skuodis thought.
The head of the Road Directorate Remigijus Lipkevičius told the committee that the road section from kilometer 16 to kilometer 21 has already been reconstructed, almost 40 million has been invested so far. euros.
The Road Directorate told BNS that 18,5 million was paid to one contractor. EUR, and the other - 19,8 million. euros.
The surface of this section was renovated by the Lithuanian and Estonian divisions of the Finnish construction group YIT company YIT Infra, and Panevėžys kelaiai designed and built two viaducts.
The maintenance of the Vilnius-Utena road built in 1985, the surface of which is made of cement concrete, is constantly becoming more expensive, because it is cracked, new cracks, and deformed seams.
The project is financed from the Road Maintenance and Development Program and the funds of the European Union.
The Directorate of Roads previously predicted that the entire road renovation could be completed by 2030
