Friday marked the start of European Mobility Week, an annual campaign to encourage people to leave their cars behind and travel on foot or by environmentally friendly means.
This year's theme of the campaign, which was initiated by the European Commission and will take place on September 16-22, is "Communicate easier", and the slogan is "Move freely".
In big cities and many other municipalities, when the campaign ends on September 22, the car-free day, public transport will transport passengers for free, orienteering competitions and others will be held in the capital events, several streets will be closed to traffic.
"We will welcome the end of Mobility Week with even more surprises: on September 22 we will invite you to celebrate Car Free Day by traveling for free by public transport, and in the evening - we will offer you a unique free bicycle tour through the history of Vilnius with a guide. "Together with the initiative of exploring Vilnius in an alternative way, "Invisible Vilnius", we will present to movement enthusiasts a new, common thematic cycling route, during which we will invite you to carve out the jubilee 700 years of the capital, get to know the updated cycling infrastructure of the capital and fall in love with Vilnius all over again - on two wheels", - writes the SĮ "Communication services" in the message.
