As the warm season begins in Vilnius, passengers are increasingly complaining about the temperature. in public transport"Judu" reminds that from April 1 to October 31, the air temperature in buses and trolleybuses must be maintained between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius.
Although 91 new-generation trolleybuses, manufactured in 2024 and equipped with modern air conditioning systems, are already plying the streets of Vilnius, not all older vehicles can ensure optimal temperatures on extremely hot days.
"We understand that traveling by public transport during the heat can be uncomfortable, especially if the air conditioning system is not working properly. Passenger comfort is our priority, so we are constantly monitoring the situation and responding to residents' observations," says Vaiva Bingelė, Customer Experience Manager at Judu.
Currently, 629 buses run in Vilnius on weekdays. public transport facilities, of which about 83 percent have working air conditioning systems. However, even in them, maintaining a constant temperature is not easy - heat enters through constantly opening doors at the stops, and in some cases, air conditioning equipment breaks down during the day and can only be repaired upon returning to the park.
According to the recommendations of the National Center for Public Health, the optimal temperature difference between indoors and outdoors should be no more than 6-7 degrees. This means that if it is 33 degrees outside, you can expect a temperature of about 26 degrees inside the cabin.
"Although challenges still exist, solutions are already being implemented. It is planned that by the end of 2026 the entire public transport fleet will be completely renovated - this means not only modern, air-conditioned vehicles, but also a higher-quality, more comfortable daily journey for every passenger. We are moving towards a future where public transport will not only be reliable, but also the first choice for traveling in the city," says a representative of Judu.
Passenger control staff are currently checking temperatures in the cabins with special thermometers. Passengers are also invited to share their experiences and observations via email. [email protected]"Every passenger's feedback is very important to us - they help us better understand travelers' experiences and respond more quickly to emerging situations," note Judu experts.
