A new one will soon launch in Vilnius public transport type – electric boats. Two of them should soon sail on the Neris River. Recently, residents were able to help the municipality choose their names. This time, we asked Vilnius residents whether they plan to use this new type of public transport.
34 percent of those surveyed (459 votes) say they would like to try sailing on electric boats, but would not sail on them regularly. Another 24 percent (319 votes) say they would use the new mode of transport and promise to do so often.
"Just for fun," residents write.
Another 453 respondents said they definitely do not plan to sail on ships. The remaining 8 percent (103 votes) say that this question is not relevant to them.
"Let's not pollute the peaceful Neris with this nonsense, I beg you as a 35+ year resident of the city. And ban water motorcycles as soon as possible and remove them from the river. Let them fight in a lagoon or some Vievis," people criticize.
1334 residents participated in the MadeinVilnius.lt survey. The survey ran from Monday 2 June to Friday 6 June.
More than 4000 people participated in the final vote, choosing names for four electric passenger ships that will begin regular sailings on the Neris River this summer. The voters decided to give the electric ships the following names – “Iron Wolf”, “Morning”, “Smilga” and “Lašiša”. These names will be officially registered in the Inland Waterway Vessel Register and will become the permanent names of the electric ships.
The first two electric passenger ships are already in the final stages of production. The production of the other two ships is also moving forward rapidly.
The Nerimi passenger transport project is being implemented by a team from various Vilnius city municipalities companies cooperating to ensure the full implementation of the new service. UAB "Vilnius public transport" will perform the functions of the service operator, SE "Communication services" (JUDU) is responsible for organizing the service, UAB "Beam" takes care of the installation and maintenance of the infrastructure, and UAB "Vilnius lighting" will install ship charging equipment and provide access lighting.
