A poll conducted on Monday showed that more than half of those polled in the city would like a tram.
41% of Vilnius residents believe that the city should have offered residents the opportunity to travel by tram a long time ago. 14,2% of respondents would like to see trams in place of the trolleybuses currently running around the city, some of which include Škoda trolleybuses still produced in Czechoslovakia.
22.9% of residents would not like trams, some Vilnius residents fear that the number of lanes for cars will decrease in the city. Almost as many, 19.8% of the respondents, would prefer to see a metro in the city.
A total of 4877 respondents participated in the survey organized by MadeinVilnius.lt.
According to the municipality, the idea of adapting the railway transport infrastructure in the territory to the tram was proposed by urban planners of the Paris Planning Institute.
