On Wednesday, 118 accidents were recorded on the slippery streets of Vilnius city and county.
"Yesterday, there were 118 accidents, for example, throughout the county, not only in the city of Vilnius (...). If we compare with January 9, the difference would be twofold," Igor Lukaševas, head of the Dispatch and GMP Brigades Service, told BNS on Thursday.
According to him, 28 injuries occurred in Vilnius alone on Wednesday, and 46 in the county.
According to I. Lukaševs, a car accident was recorded in the Trakai district on Thursday due to a slippery road. The accident injured three people, including a child, and one person was crushed.
"But everyone is alive, taken to medical facilities," he added.
According to I. Lukašev, the most frequent injuries are head, limb and various bruises.
Vilnius city municipality on Thursday morning, due to the slippery road, urged residents to avoid non-essential travel. It was also reported that due to difficult weather conditions in Vilnius from 4 a.m. increased amounts of salt and sand are sprinkled in the morning.
According to the report, rain and frozen ground can leave sidewalks covered in ice, making walking in the city extremely slippery. Due to weather conditions, some areas are sprayed more than once. In total, about 600 workers are cleaning pedestrian and bicycle paths, stairs and other areas in Vilnius.
According to the Motor Roads Directorate, on Thursday morning, the main national roads in the country were slippery in many places, especially in southern and northern Lithuania, due to the formation of bare ice, in the eastern part of the country there were fallen snow or ruts in places.
District roads with lower traffic intensity remain slippery throughout the country.
Road users warn that during the day, traffic conditions will also be complicated by slush and slush.
