Vilnius city municipality issued a construction permit for a transport infrastructure improvement project, which is planned to be implemented next to the planned multifunctional complex "Acropolis Vingis". The project includes solutions that will be implemented at the current intersection of Gerosios Vilties and Geležinio Vilko streets.
"This is the last construction permit document that we have been waiting for in the development of the multifunctional complex "Akropolis Vingis". Taking into account the complexity and scale of this project, we are consistently implementing the planned steps necessary for the further development of the complex "Akropolis Vingis" - we are updating the project budget, and we will assess financing options. We will inform the public about the further progress of the project as soon as we have important news," says Gabrielė Sapon, Director and Board Member of "Akropolis Group".
Vilnius City Municipality issued a construction permit for the multifunctional complex "Akropolis Vingis" in August 2024.
Increased traffic throughput and security
The implementation of the Gerosios Vilties and Geležinio Vilko St. infrastructure improvement project includes a major reconstruction of the intersection of these streets. It is planned to install a roundabout at the beginning of Gerosios Vilties St., at Geležinio Vilko St., and after Geležinio Vilko St., an underground entrance to the underground parking lot of the multifunctional complex and a modern underground pedestrian and bicycle crossing, as well as an additional left-turn lane from Gerosios Vilties St. to Savanorių Ave.
Once the planned solutions are implemented, the intersection of Gerosios Vilties and Geležinio Vilko streets will become a continuous traffic intersection. This should increase traffic capacity and ensure safe and convenient communication for all road users – pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.
The underground pedestrian and cyclist crossing under Geležinio Vilko St. will become a modern, convenient and lively connection between Naujamiestis and Vingis Park.
Three projects to improve surrounding infrastructure
During the design of Akropolis Vingis, a total of three projects for improving the transport infrastructure were prepared, which are an integral part of the quarter. The projects include infrastructure solutions planned to be implemented on Eiguliai, Geležinio Vilko, Gerosios Vilties and MK Čiurlionio streets. All of them were prepared in close cooperation with Vilnius city municipalities experts, taking into account their recommendations and comments.
The design proposals for two of these projects were presented to the public in January 2023, and the municipality approved the design proposals in the spring of the same year. The Vilnius City Municipality issued a construction permit for the Eigulių g. project in November 2024, and for Gerosios Vilties and Geležinio Vilko g. in May of this year.
Some of the solutions for improving the traffic infrastructure are already being implemented - in accordance with the construction permit issued separately for the project, the construction of the section of Eigulių street at the edge of the development plot is being completed, through which convenient access to the apartment block "reVINGIS" developed by the Galio group company in the neighborhood of "Akropolis Vingis" will be ensured.
All public infrastructure improvement works are being implemented with the funds of the developer of the project "Akropolis Vingis". According to the current legal acts, a permit for the operation of the multifunctional complex can be issued only after the developer has fully completed the implementation of the infrastructure improvement projects.
The multifunctional complex "Akropolis Vingis" will be built on a former industrial site and will include retail, service and recreational spaces, a concert hall with 2500 seats or up to 4000 standing places, a food hall, conference and cinema centers, offices and apartments for long-term residential rental. The complex is planned to have approximately 4500 parking spaces.
The block will prioritize convenient pedestrian and cyclist movement, with new bicycle and pedestrian paths planned. Recreational and leisure areas will also be planned, some of which are designed on the roof of the multifunctional complex.
