Vilnius city municipality informs that on March 2025, 14, a raised pedestrian crossing will be installed in the Lazdynai eldership, Architektų g. 101. These works are part of a traffic safety improvement project, the aim of which is to ensure greater pedestrian safety in this busy area.
However, in order to properly install the crossing, a nearby silver maple tree, which has a diameter of 27 cm, will have to be removed. According to municipal representatives, the decision to remove the tree was made taking into account infrastructure needs and the aim of improving traffic conditions for Lazdynai residents.
Why is a raised walkway needed?
Raised pedestrian crossings help reduce vehicle speeds, making them an effective means of improving pedestrian safety. They encourage drivers to be more attentive and stop, especially near schools, residential areas, or areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.
Residents are invited to follow information about ongoing infrastructure improvement works and submit their suggestions for replanting greenery and other initiatives to improve the city's environment.
