Maintenance and asphalting of the gravel road leading to Bajori and Visoriai districts is starting. By the end of September, the road, which is constantly sinking and potholed during the rains, will become a street adapted to the needs of the residents in the rapidly developing part of the capital.
"In the Bajorai settlement and the surrounding areas, the population density is growing rapidly. Mykolo Lietuvio street is one of the main transport arteries of this area. Through it, residents get to the main streets - Ukmergės and Mokislininkai, Western bypass and many other side streets," says Raimondas Jacunskas, advisor of the Operation subsection of the Infrastructure Department of the Vilnius municipality.
After paving the street, he said, dust pollution will be reduced, road maintenance will be easier, and the street will be sprinkled with a salt mixture during the winter. In winter, when it snowed heavily, the street became impassable, and in autumn and spring, as soon as the gravel was leveled, potholes appeared again due to traffic flows.
During the maintenance of the street, a water collection tank will be installed. This will solve the critical problem of Mykolos Lietuvios and nearby Šventeliškių Street - water leakage during rains.
During street asphalting works, traffic is prohibited on Mykolos Lietuvios street from Ukmergė st. to Šventeliškių st. Traffic is directed to the nearby streets: Šventeliškių st., Jonas Karolis Chodkevičius st., Šaulio st. About 500 thousand is allocated for the works. euros.
After the works are completed, the traffic on Broniaus Krivickas street bordering Mykolos Lietuvios street will change. One-way traffic will be introduced from Liudas Gira Street to Janina Degutytė Street - this will reduce the flow of traffic and allow it to be diverted in another direction. It will be possible to enter the street only from the side of J. Degutytė street, and from the side of L. Gira street there will be signs prohibiting traffic.
Transit traffic currently accounts for about 80 percent of the total traffic flow on B. Krivickas Street. It is estimated that after the introduction of one-way traffic, the flow of transit cars will decrease by 30 percent or even more.
Vilnius city municipalities on behalf of the administration, UAB "Vilniaus planas" is preparing Mykolo Lietuvio st. and Loksininkai st. project proposals for the section from Ukmergė st. to Gelezini Vilka st. The proposals envisage adaptation of the street for all road users and the installation of comprehensive infrastructure: the installation of modern pedestrian and bicycle paths that meet street standards, public transport installation of infrastructure required for service provision, installation of a 4-lane (2 in each direction) street, installation of noise and pollution reduction measures.
