After meeting on Wednesday Vilnius city municipalities The council decided to name the square in Grigiškės after Totorinė.
The municipality took this initiative after last year the idea "Square in Grigiškės "Totorinė" - to foster the idea of the Tatars" won the project "Take Part! Vilnius".
According to the design proposal, the square should include a gravel path, benches, a chess table, flower beds and a small garden, as well as an information board presenting the beginning of the creation of local history.
"There would also be a musical bench (with accordion melodies) and a memorial plaque in memory of Maestro Ali Aleksandrs Melech, a famous Tatar music teacher born in Grigiškės," the description of the previously submitted idea states.
The new name of the square is associated with the village of Totorinė, which previously existed in the specific location of Grigiškės, where the Tatars who helped protect the Vilnius area lived.
Some streets in the capital will be renamed
During the council meeting held on Wednesday, it was also decided to rename some streets in the capital. For example, in Antakalni The former 3rd street of Gvazdikų Sodų was renamed Upelės.
