As the city grows, new settlements and neighborhoods are created in areas that were previously used for other purposes, so the capital takes decisions that would not only ensure safe communication with the central part of the city, but would also be sustainable and long-term.
Due to the rapid expansion of the northern territory of Vilnius, the reconstruction project of Mykolos Lietuvios Street is being prepared - this street is an important missing artery to reach the surrounding settlements of Bajori and Visorii. For the project to be successful, the legal aspects and other consistent steps for the adjacent plots were taken beforehand. It is planned to resolve the issues of plots during this year.
During the development of the project, noise and pollution reduction solutions will be selected for this district, which will protect the environment and be convenient for the surrounding residents. A new bus route is also planned, so great attention is paid to sustainable mobility.
In preparation, Mykolos Lietuvios st. for reconstruction, first of all, changes in traffic organization are planned, which will allow residents of Visoriai and Bajori districts to more conveniently connect with the city via the Western Bypass. When leaving Mykolos Lietuvios Street, it will be possible to turn not only to the right (direction Ukmergė st.), but also move directly to the Western Bypass. After introducing the changes, this exit direction will become safer, reducing the need to turn around Ukmergės g. at the entrance to Tarande. Due to the existing construction and plots (according to the currently implemented project), a left turn is not planned yet, but it is already planned.
The intersection will be equipped with traffic-adaptive traffic lights that will respond to traffic flows: infrared vehicle sensors will allow the duration of the traffic lights to change automatically, depending on the current situation.
The intersection will be additionally monitored and adjusted as needed.
The traffic lights meet the newly installed standards of the bicycle path and the pedestrian crossing. Mykolo Lietuvio st. new traffic lights for pedestrians and cyclists, buttons and signals for people with individual needs have been installed.
