Although recently there is more talk about bicycle streets, In the old town there are three streets where their traffic is completely prohibited. Such a decision Vilnius city municipality adopted in order to introduce more order and safety in the streets. However, not everyone is inclined to follow these road signs.

In order to introduce more order and safety in the streets, since June 1 last year. a traffic ban on electric scooters and bicycles was introduced in the busiest tourist streets of the city: Vilniaus, Pilies and Savičius Streets. They were equipped with signs prohibiting the traffic of scooters and bicycles.

Even now, walking along the mentioned streets, you can still come across scooterists or cyclists passing by. Sometimes their driving culture puts pedestrians at risk. There are cases when e-mails are used on these streets. bikes that can move faster than regular bikes.

"Public order officers, as far as possible, work preventively in streets where the ban on bicycles and other means of micromobility has been established. The municipality does not send special crews to these streets, but officers patrolling nearby monitor the situation. If a violation is visible, then such e-mail the driver of the scooter or bicycle is warned and informed about the applicable rules. Public order officers do not have the authority to impose fines for driving violations," says Gabrielius Grubinskas, Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.

Although cyclists and scooters cross these streets, where their movement is prohibited, almost every day, more frequent patrols are not expected. However, the municipality assures that if the behavior of the drivers of such vehicles changes, additional restrictions may be introduced.
