Oz's quarter is undergoing parking changes this week - it's becoming a green toll zone. The changes are implemented in order to more effectively regulate car flows, chaotic parking, promote alternative movement and reduce the use of personal transport - business companies are concentrated in this place, and the population of the quarter is also growing rapidly. It is planned that after the introduction of parking fees, they will be parked more orderly. This week, the works of marking and installation of parking machines have started, and drivers are asked to be careful and observe the road signs that will indicate on which days and hours parking fees must be paid.
"The aim of the parking policy of Vilnius, as in many large foreign cities, is to reduce the use of personal transport, promote alternative ways of travel, use vehicle parking spaces more efficiently, improve the living environment and quality of life, thereby implementing the goals of the city's sustainable mobility plan. Our experience shows that with free parking, cars are often parked chaotically, and parking lots or streets are over 100% full. In such places, after the introduction of a local parking fee, occupancy decreases to such a level that both residents and other drivers find a place to park without much searching for a free space, and also more often consider alternative ways of traveling - for example, public transport or at least when joining joint crews with colleagues and family members. Since a considerable part of the population and business companies are concentrated in the Oz quarter, it is natural that parking is quite chaotic, changes are needed - we can see this also when conducting research on the commuting habits of companies", says SĮ "Communication servicesDirector Modesta Gusarovienė.
M. Gusarovienė adds that both the observations made in Vilnius and the practice of foreign cities show that when the occupancy of parking spaces exceeds 85%. parking spaces become inefficient, no longer fulfill their function, and drivers are forced to waste time looking for a free space. Excessive occupancy of parking spaces also encourages leaving cars in a disorderly manner, creating traffic jams, emergency situations, and increasing environmental pollution and noise levels.
The changes to parking arrangements in the Oz quarter are being implemented based on the municipal council's decision, which provides for the application of green toll zone rates to shared parking spaces.
Paid parking will be valid from Monday to Saturday from 8.00:18.00 a.m. to 0,30:33 p.m. and will be subject to an hourly fee of EUR XNUMX. Those who leave their cars in the Oz quarter are often recommended to pay the monthly fee of EUR XNUMX in advance, which is valid in the green zone.
Residents are advised to take care of the parking permits issued by SĮ "Susiasiekimo paslogos" SA. They can be purchased www.parking.lt or at Customer Service Centers: Gedimino Ave. 9A (Vinco Kudirka a.) or Geležinkelio st. 16 (Railway at the station).
Road signs and ticket machines are currently being installed in the Oz quarter. All work is expected to be completed by the middle of this week, and drivers are reminded to follow the road signs to pay the local toll.
