On Wednesday, Road Maintenance announced the start of winter season work. According to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Julius Skačkauskas, winter did not come unexpectedly for road workers this year - the equipment is already ready, and spreading salt and other necessary materials have already been purchased.
"Salt warehouses and warehouses of other materials are full - everything has been purchased. Over 800 mechanisms will be ready, configured, some new ones have been purchased, so everything is really ready. A map of the winter works has also been presented to the public, where the public will be able to follow the movement of the spreaders and plan their trips accordingly," J. Skačkauskas told reporters on Wednesday.
Martynas Gedaminskas, head of the infrastructure support and development group of "Via Lietuva", told about the updated equipment used by "Road Maintenance", which will allow a faster and more accurate response to the rapidly changing road conditions during the winter season.
"We updated the equipment on the roads - air stations from which the road maintenance takes information and sees the situation on the roads in real time. This year, we also renewed the third level of road maintenance, where we switch from the sand and salt mixture to only salt, so that there is less pollution and dust on the roads," explained M. Gedaminskas.
"Each technical supervisor has an automatic skid measurement system installed in the cars, and in this way it is possible to check and assess the condition of the roads in winter weather conditions," he said.
The main activity of "Road maintenance" is more than 21,5 thousand. km maintenance of roads of state importance according to the contract administered by Via Lietuva AB.
Last year, "Road maintenance" during the winter season filled a little more than 43 thousand. sq. m. fragments or more than 180 thousand pits. The company announces in 2023 scattered about 125 thousand i.e. salt.
