Last week we already wrote about the presented multifunctional quarter "Acropolis Vingis" project proposals. The aforementioned project proposals will be evaluated and discussed during a public consultation with the public at the end of July. In this article, we will review the future traffic changes around the future new complex, and we will not repeat the functional solutions of the complex itself. You can find last week's article about the "Akropolis Vingis" complex here, where you will find information about architectural solutions.
The traffic light intersection will be destroyed, a mini-tunnel is planned
One of the fundamental changes in the organization of traffic at the future "Acropolis" is the cancellation of the intersection of Gerojis Vilties and Geležinios Vilkas streets. Instead of the mentioned intersection, a turbo roundabout is planned, the outer diameter of which will be 40 meters. The design proposals indicate that the roundabout is designed with access from and to Geležini vilka St., Gerosios vilties St., apartment yards and the entrance to "Acropolis". In order to avoid the intersection of traffic flows, a mini-tunnel is planned from the turbo roundabout under Geležinii Vilks Street, which will allow vehicles to enter the territory of "Acropolis".
The intersection of Savanorių Avenue and Gerosios Vilties Street will also be reconstructed. The part of Vilkpėdės street, from the mentioned intersection to Geležinios Vilkos street, will be narrowed down to two traffic lanes, a 3-meter wide bicycle path will be installed to serve the traffic coming from Naujamiestis, Center micro-districts. The flow of pedestrians and bicycles to the territory of Vingios Park and the Acropolis will go under the newly formed underground passage - tunnel.
"A wide pedestrian path is being designed to the underground passage to the planned building on Geležinio Vilko Street. 2 territory. A wide green belt will separate the bicycle and pedestrian paths. On the other side of the street, a wide sidewalk, parking spaces, and a green belt are planned. Next to the new Gerozios Vilties st. the turbo ring provides a public space with sloping (up to 5%) descents for pedestrians and bicycles to the underpass, ensuring the visibility and safety of all road users," the project proposals say about the traffic transformations on Gerosios Vilties Street.
Another roundabout is planned to be installed near the gas station
On Eigulių street, at the intersection with the newly planned Vidine street, it is planned to install another roundabout, which would be 26 m in diameter with one lane.
"The central part of the roundabout is designed to be driven over". The covering of the central part of the ring is granite pavers framed by granite road curbs," the design proposals say about the future roundabout.
