LTG group passenger transport company "LTG Link", which has been testing the dynamic pricing project on the most popular route Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius since the summer of last year, will start applying the innovation on other routes: tickets for Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius flights will be available for purchase at a discount of up to 40 percent from April 14, dynamic pricing will be applied on the routes Kaunas–Šiauliai–Kaunas, Kaunas–Marijampolė–Kaunas, Vilnius–Trakai–Vilnius and Vilnius–Varėna–Marcinkonys–Varėna–Vilnius. These routes are used by more than 50 percent of all train passengers.
Since the summer, dynamic pricing has been applied to 20 flights on the most popular route Vilnius–Kaunas–Vilnius. Dynamic pricing allows passengers to travel cheaper, and the company can manage passenger flows more efficiently, taking into account the number of passengers planned in advance. Before the introduction of dynamic pricing, the vast majority of passengers (83%) bought tickets on the day of departure, most often they chose single tickets. During the testing period, sales of tickets purchased in advance increased almost threefold.
"The ability to buy a ticket cheaper changes the habits of our passengers and encourages them to plan their trip in advance. So, it is obvious that dynamic pricing has paid off, so in 2025 we will start applying dynamic pricing on other routes and thus encourage people to buy tickets not at the last minute. By seeing train occupancy in advance, we will be able to manage passenger flows more effectively, adjust rolling stock, and ensure even higher quality service," says Kristina Meidė, head of LTG Link.
Sales of single tickets with dynamic pricing will start on April 14 for travel from May 14.
Passengers will be able to see cheaper ticket offers by displaying the selected day's flights on the sales platform. With the introduction of dynamic pricing, all valid commercial discounts and benefits remain when purchasing tickets. A 50 percent discount applies to persons aged 70–80 and students, 80 percent cheaper tickets cost for persons aged 80 and older, as well as POLA card holders. A 30 percent discount applies to students. A 20 percent discount applies to holders of Family cards. Discounts are applied to passengers with individual needs in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Transport Discounts of the Republic of Lithuania. On average, about 30 percent of passengers travel by train with discounts and benefits.
When purchasing train tickets on five routes a month before the intended start of the journey, tickets will cost up to 40 percent less. Later, taking into account the running time of a specific train and the remaining free seats on the train, the ticket price will approach the regular price.
On the last days, when buying tickets for more crowded trains, the price can be up to 10 percent higher than the regular price. The regular price for those traveling from Vilnius to Kaunas in 8nd class is 5 euros, if the ticket is purchased in advance - its lowest price can be about 8,80 euros, and if more seats are taken on the train, when buying a ticket at the last minute, the price in 40nd class can reach XNUMX euros. Trains run about XNUMX times a day on the Vilnius-Kaunas-Vilnius route, so passengers will be able to choose to travel on another - less crowded train, where the ticket price will remain regular, or will be cheaper.
The principles of dynamic pricing will operate in all LTG Link sales channels and Perlo terminals, where financial and insurance services are provided.
