Unexpected news came from Polish Railways - from December, two trains will run from Vilnius to Warsaw. The trains will run daily, still with a transfer, but one of them will take you to another Polish city.
So, from December this year, two trains will run from Vilnius to Warsaw every day. One, as before, will go to Kaunas via Warsaw. Meanwhile, the other, new train, will move from Vilnius via Warsaw to Poznan, and then the train will take passengers to Szczecin or Zielona Góra.
"The current transfer model will be preserved here, therefore the Lithuanian border at the station In Mockava, you will have to change from PKP Intercity trains toLTG Link"trains going to Vilnius via Kaunas," the Poles write.
The new train route is good news for Vilnius residents who want to travel even further by train. Szczecin offers the most direct train connections from Poland to Germany. There are as many as 5 direct trains from Szczecin to Berlin every day.
Although for now you will have to change trains in Mockawa, these changes may have a positive impact on Lithuanians' travel habits. After all, even more European cities will be more conveniently accessible by train. It is planned that after the construction of the Rail Baltica railway line, Lithuanians will be able to travel to Polish cities without changing trains.
These plans were shared by the Polish State Railways "Polskie Koleje Państwowe" (PKP).
