Kauno tiltai, one of the largest transport infrastructure construction companies in the Baltic countries, will build a tunnel under the railway on Iešmininkų Street in the capital, near Vilnius' southern bypass, by the end of March next year.
On January 28, Vilnius municipality administration signed 1,04 mln. EUR contract with "Kaunos tiltais", is indicated in the public procurement report.
The tunnel will be intended for pedestrians and cyclists, therefore it will facilitate people's communication between Naujamiestis and Naujininkai.
The municipality announced a new tender for the contractor in November 2020, as the previous one was terminated in September after the only participant, the bridge construction company Tilsta, requested a higher than expected price. The latter came second in the new competition.
The project received the approval of the Vilnius authorities back in 2019, when the city council approved the construction of a 7-meter-long and 5,6-meter-wide tunnel on Iešmininkų Street.
