Expanding the geography of travel trains "Lithuanian railways” together with the Ukrainian Railways is implementing a project to connect the capitals of four states by train.
September 28 the first flights of this train will start from Kyiv, which will take passengers on September 29. from Vilnius or Šiauliai railway stations you can go to Riga, Minsk or Kiev.
According to Linas Baužis, Deputy General Director of "Lietuvos Geležinkelių", Director of the Passenger Transport Directorate, test runs will take place from Kyiv to Riga in the first months. After evaluating their results, the train departure times and possibly the frequency may change in the future.
"We aim to expand the geography of train travel. We are not only developing local transportation routes, but we are also looking for opportunities to transport passengers to foreign countries, so we have been participating in this project since this fall. The train of the four capitals is a complex and ambitious ambition, so test runs will take place in the first half of the year, the results of which will allow us to improve the service in the future," says Linas Baužys, head of the Passenger Transport Directorate.
The train journey from Vilnius to Riga will take about 4 hours. 30 minutes, from Šiauliai - about 2 hours. Trains Kyiv-Riga will run once a week for the time being.
Train tickets can already be purchased at railway station ticket offices, in the future it is planned to sell tickets online. The price of the trip from Šiauliai to Riga will cost from 16 euros, from Vilnius - from 23 euros. Vilnius-Kiev train tickets will cost from 50 euros. Travelers going to Kyiv will need transit visas for Belarus.
