AB Via Lietuva continues to develop sustainable mobility infrastructure in the country. With additional funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) allocated in 2025, it is planned to start or improve about 2026 sections of pedestrian and bicycle paths this year and by mid-16, with a total length of just over 50 km.
This year, it is planned to install 19 km of new pedestrian and bicycle paths, and public procurement procedures are underway for the construction of more than 50 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths. Currently, 25 km of pedestrian and bicycle paths are being designed, and design services are being purchased or are planned to be purchased in the near future for more than 96 km of pedestrian and bicycle path projects.
The opportunity to develop more of this infrastructure important for sustainable mobility opens up after the reallocation of European Union funds.
"We are consistently pursuing our goal - implementing sustainable mobility infrastructure projects. We pay great attention to pedestrian and bicycle paths that would connect settlements, go through towns, and expanding suburban areas. Our goal is to install safe and convenient infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, to provide the opportunity to choose sustainable trips by bicycle or on foot when commuting to work or traveling," said Martynas Gedaminskas, CEO of Via Lietuva.
With additional funding for sustainable mobility projects, approximately 30 km of new pedestrian and bicycle paths will be built. The projects will include not only the construction of paths, but also major or minor road repairs, lighting in some sections, traffic safety measures, and maintenance of other infrastructure.
