We inform you that according to the data of the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service under the Ministry of Environment, m. on August 15-17, the highest air temperature will reach 30-33 degrees in many districts.
Based on the 2011 November 11 By order of the Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Lithuania no. D1-870 "On confirmation of indicators of natural, catastrophic meteorological and hydrological phenomena" - heat, it is a natural meteorological phenomenon, when the maximum air temperature is +30 °C or higher, and the duration of heat is 3 or more days. Babies and children under 4 years of age are at greater risk of heatstroke, as they are more sensitive to the effects of high temperatures, and people aged 65 and over, people who are overweight, people who do heavy physical work and have various diseases (endocrine, kidney, cardiovascular). In the heat, you can suffer from burns, heatstroke, sunstroke, hypoxia (starvation of oxygen).
When it's hot, it's important to know how to protect your health and that of your loved ones:
- Try to be in rooms where there are fans or air conditioners. In the absence of such conditions at home, plan to spend time in other cool rooms.
- Drink fluids more often - a little at a time, throughout the day, without waiting until thirst starts to hit you. Mineral, mineralized, drinking or salted water is best suited for this. Avoid alcoholic drinks, caffeinated drinks, drinks with sugar or sweeteners - they encourage more fluid excretion.
- Avoid fatty and hard-to-digest foods. Eat more liquid products, easily digestible low-fat dairy products, fruits and vegetables. Foods such as meat that are high in protein increase metabolic heat production and promote water loss.
- When going outside, put on a head covering or use an umbrella, wear sunglasses.
- Wear light, light, natural fabric, non-restrictive, breathable clothing.
- 30 minutes before going out into the open sun, use protective creams with the highest possible protection factor (30 SPF and more).
- For recreation in nature, choose a place in the shade, avoid sunlight, direct sunlight, limit the time spent in the open sun, be under umbrellas. It is especially dangerous to fall asleep in the sun.
- Do not leave elderly or disabled people, children, animals in a closed car, even if all the windows are open.
- Limit physical activity, especially at noon - from 11 a.m. to 17 p.m. Plan to do garden, vegetable and other farm work early in the morning or in the evening. Provide special breaks in a cool place for employees working in the heat.
- Keep the home environment cool. Cover the windows with light-colored curtains, blinds or material with an aluminum surface that would reflect the sun's rays. The windows in the house should be closed during the day and opened only in the evening.
- During the day, use as little electrical devices as possible, artificial light, because it creates additional heat.
- When suffering from diseases of the cardiovascular system, monitor your health.
- In case of profuse sweating and muscle cramps (convulsions) or if the body temperature rises >40°C, in case of hot and wet skin - seek medical help urgently.
